I only learnt of Max's passing yesterday. I send my sincere condolences to his family, the town and all the staff at the hospital, who must be missing him so much. I went to work in Griffith for a fairly long stretch as a paediatic Locum. It was one of my first Locum rural posts. Without Max's support and guidance I would have been lost. What a tragic loss.Vasili Berdoukas December 22, 2025

So sad to learn today from Dr Ron White of the sudden passing of Max. Back in the 80"s and 90"s at Morningside Clinic, Johannesburg I worked with Max, which included the care of my own 2 grandsons. I always remembered the 8th August as it is also the date of my son's birthday. Deepest sympathy as you journey forward l, and much love to you and your family. At 84 I am still.in touch with my Morningside colleagues and we all loved working with Max. All my love JuneJune Milburn-Pyle December 13, 2025

Our family was so sad to hear of the loss of Professor Hopp. When our daughter was very young, we were blessed to have the care of Dr Hopp and the whole paed ward at Griffith. His care, skill and calm nature reassured us at a time when we were afraid and worried. We could not have ever hoped for someone better to help our daughter. To Professor Hopp's family, our deep condolences. Please know there are so many families that you may never have known about but that are all the better for having contact with such a wonderful man.Fiona Wragge October 22, 2025

Dear Mrs. Hopp, Dagney, Josh, Pete and family, I'm so sorry to hear of the unexpected passing of Prof. Hopp. He was a wonderful person to be around in the brief time I knew him when working at Griffith Base Hospital. Kind and attentive, he always had time for the babies, children, their families and those of us whom were working on shift. He was always keen to talk about his cycle adventures, but more so the love he had for his family. My sincere condolences, Marc PetersenMarc Petersen (RN) October 21, 2025

Dear Julia, I am so sad to hear the passing of our dear friend. Max has been a mentor to me in endocrinology. He used to play tennis with my husband Guner. He still talks about their tennis matches. Our condolences to you and your family.Nursen Gurtunca October 19, 2025
